Mischief Monday- a Thanksgiving SURPRISE!

Hellooooo, Everyone!

We are on Day 3 at Grandma's house- I really do love getting to spend time over there.  Bosses have taken a break from life in Minnesota and are visiting family on the East Coast.  Grandma has a little orange cat named Chloe, whom I love to chase around- she, on the other hand, is not amused by my shenanigans, so I hope I can leave her alone.  We'll see how that goes. :)

And now, for my surprise!

I am having my FIRST giveaway on Sadie the Golden Pup!  I am SO excited to have the opportunity to spread a little "Holiday Cheer" to my readers- so, be on the lookout for what's in store on Friday.

In the meantime, I will be causing mischief fun and good times over at Gran"dog"ma's house while my Bosses are on vacation.  It's pretty fun!  So far, I've been pretty *not* mischievous.  But who knows how long I can keep that up! ;-)

Curbing "Some" Mischief

Happy Monday!

So, as you know, I've been known to cause quiiiite the mischief around here when Bosses leave for work.  I really miss them, so I panic, and think they're never coming back.....

....and then they come back.  And while I'm really happy that they're back, I also look around me at the rubble.  Oh yeah, I made that rubble.  Oh. No.

So now, I've been a member of "Project Sadie" for a few weeks.  For now, it's been a success- whew!  I'm finally being a rather good puppy (or did Bosses finally realize possible disastrous materials and remove them from my worksite)!  Mom has been lining my KONG with a spoonful of peanut butter everyday, which has been working well as a positive reinforcement.  Mom leaving is okay now, since I get good things when she goes!

The kitty overlord, Thor, making sure the "Staff" (or I call them "Bosses") are making the food correctly.
A few days ago, Mom saw a brilliant idea from her volunteer friend at RAGOM- now, most of it is common knowledge.  Her volunteer friend froze the KONG toys for her dogs, filled with a lovely little concoction! (You're probably saying "yeah, yeah, yeah, what else is new?" I'm Mom/Dad's first dog together, so this is all news to us!")  She mixes apples, peanut butter, plain yogurt, and water.  We did a little spin off this one, mixing plain yogurt, apples, peanut butter, and blueberries.  I'll show you what she did- I had to ask Mom to make these, since I don't have opposable thumbs. :)

If only we had more KONG toys.....
First, Mom washed all the fruits- gotta make sure that they're all clean.  You never know what's on those things!  After everything was squeaky clean, Mom cored the apple, then chopped it into little pieces so it would blend better.  The picture shows the skin, but she took the skin off shortly afterwards.

Mmmmm, apples!  After this picture, Mom took the skin off the apple and chopped it.
She put all the chopped apple aside in a little bowl (about 1 medium apple's worth), and put about 1/2 a little carton's worth of blueberries aside in a bowl.  Mmmmm, fresh fruit is so good!

After the fruit prep was done, she poured in a little bit of plain yogurt into the blender.  We're still in the experimentation process, so we started by adding a personal-sized container's worth of yogurt in there.  It seems like a reasonable amount.

Mom put the apples in first, and blended the apples and yogurt together.  The whirring of the machine makes me curious!

When the mixture was smooth, Mom then added the blueberries.  It was so cool watching the color change as soon as the blueberries started making their way to the bottom! :)

When the blueberries were mixed in, Mom also added in about a tablespoon's worth of peanut butter. YUM!  It has a slightly watery consistency, but it'll work for our purpose.  When it was thoroughly mixed, Mom set out the KONGs in...wait for it....

IKEA Kid cups!!!  Yes.  These things work perfectly for storing KONGs in the freezer!  The bottom little hole in the KONG practically seals on the bottom of the cup, and nothing spills.  Mom put mine in the freezer last night, and I'll get my first one to try when she leaves for work in a little bit.  How cool is that?!  A huge thank you to our volunteer friend for showing us this!  (Note: the ones that fit perfectly are a size large.  The one with the paper towel around the outside is a size medium, and still sealed.)

Size medium KONG with a paper towel around the edge.

Size large KONG- perfect fit!

So, there you have it!  A brilliant realization!  The IKEA kids cups cost Mom and Dad about $1.99 or so.  Do you have anything that keeps you/your pet busy while the Bosses are at work?  Do you stuff your KONG with something different?

Until next time, we're working on getting more KONGs!  Mom says they're a bit spendy to buy 5 or 6 at a time, so maybe Santa will be kind to me this year.

Sepia Saturday: Snowy Fun Time

Hello, Every"paw"dy!

Sorry I didn't post yesterday- life's been pretty crazy around the "ranch" the past week.  Mom's tire blew out and had to be fully replaced, the cat got sick and had to go to the vet, and just everything has happened!  Yikes!

But.....it is GORGEOUS outside right now.  I've been outside to play at least 10 times so far.  :)  The snow is lightly falling, and we're expecting another 2 inches or so.  What a weird November so far, but we sure enjoy it! :)

Thoughtless Thursday: DIY Clicker Bracelet!

Hello, Sadie Nation!

Today, we thought we'd do another craft posting.  They're too much fun to just leave out in an imaginary crafting cloud!  Keep in mind that Mom is not a professional beader, but just does this for fun, so it might not be the perfect process or result!

So, this past summer, Mom and I were signed up to do a "Comfort Dog" class to get me certified with Possibility Dogs.  We thought it would be a great experience for me, as my Mom has worked in a nursing home in the past, and currently works with special needs children in a public school.  There's a dog in the special needs department that works with one girl, and Mom thinks it's so cool to have her around.  Someday, her pipe dream is to bring me to school, too, but I need more obedience training and certifications before I pitch my idea to the school.  So, this class was going to get me to listen better and learn how to be as comforting and therapeutic as possible!

Unfortunately, the class was at 6pm every Friday, which made attendance really tough for us.  Mom worked a different job over the summer, and didn't get to come home until 5, and then the whole process of packing my things up, packing me up, and driving there got to be too much.  Plus, let's be honest, Friday is for playing and spending time outside, too.  I thought so!  We had to stop the training, but we plan on starting this again sometime in the future.  Maybe when I stop being the class clown, because I am pretty notorious for that in obedience class!

For the class, our trainer required we use a clicker.  I've never seen one of these clicky devices before, but they're pretty cool.  Well, at least I think so, because every time that thing clicks, I get tasty grub.  Good deal!  Mom always kept losing the clicker, because the one we received is pretty small.  It got lost in her purse constantly.  She decided she could make a bracelet for it so it would always be on her wrist when we were doing our training!

Things you'll need:
Flexible beading cord OR elastic
Cute beads of your choice (ours are an assortment of glass beads)
Clasp (ours is called a "lobster claw")
Jump rings
Round beads (2)
Crimps (2)
Needlenose pliers or beading pliers
Scissors or a wire cutter if you are using metal wire
A clicker, of course!

An example of the wire we used- flexible, but sturdy
Picture of the jump rings, clear seed beads, and lobster claw
In the tutorial, Mom will use pink beads, and no clicker since we only have one! :)
First, we started off by grabbing all our materials, and placing them on a soft piece of fabric so that our things wouldn't roll around if we dropped the project.  Mom's learned this the hard way.  Oops.

Once we have everything laid out, the next thing we did was take the lobster claw and attach it to one end of the wire.  We did this by attaching a jump ring to the lobster claw.  Now, the next few parts get a tad confusing, because it's all about stringing things in the correct order.

For the next part, Mom put three items onto the string: a crimping bead first, a small round bead (or seed bead) on second, the jump ring with lobster claw on third.  We made these into a loop by taking the end of the string and putting it through the small round bead and crimping bead one more time.  Once the loop was made, Mom used the pliers to squish the crimping bead, sealing the end of the bracelet.  Now we can start beading!

The next part is Mom's favorite part: the actual beads.  They're way more colorful and exciting than putting the components on.  So, this part is ALL up to you!  You get to pick the beads/findings/etc that you want to use to make your bracelet pretty.  We used blue and green glass beads since we had a bunch here.  One thing you shouldn't forget, though, is the clicker. ;-)  We put ours in the middle of the bracelet, but you can put it anywhere!  We didn't have an extra clicker for the tutorial, but just pretend it's a bead and string it onto the wire.

Once you have all your pretty beads on your string, it's time to seal the other end with a clasp to use with the lobster claw.  We used another jump ring, round bead, and crimp.  Again, put the crimp on first, then the round bead, then the ring.  Make a loop by stringing the string through the round bead and crimp, then press the crimp shut with the pliers.  We didn't clip the wires from the end yet in these pictures, but you can clip them with a wire cutters or scissors to make it look neat.

And there you have it!  A clicker training bracelet that's pretty and useful!

Don't want to make the bracelet yourself?  Maybe you can sweet talk my Mom into making you one ;-)

Wordless Wednesday: Then and Now

Whew, we're already halfway through the week, eh?  That means the weekend is even closer! :)

At this time last year, I just was surrendered to a rescue with my little Golden Retriever family, and was on my way to the Golden Life.  Check out my progress! :)

Adventure Dog Tuesday: Winter Woofs

Hello, Sadie Nation!

Well, the snow is finally here.  Whether or not you enjoy the fact that it's here, you decide!  Maybe you don't get snow where you live- we get quite a bit.  Mom, Dad and I don't mind the snow, because we're Midwest natives.

One of my first times out on the deck.

Mom thinks I'm crazy, but I love laying in the snow and chewing on sticks.
What are some things we want to do in the snow this Winter?

Mom wants to learn how to cross-country ski.  She's embarrassed that she has lived in Minnesota her entire life and has not learned how!  She downhill skis like a pro, but x-country skis? The closest she has come is a Nordic Track.

"Smile for the camera!"
Mom says I could be a fox!
After Mom learns how to x-country ski, all three of us want to learn more about this sport called "ski-joring".  We see people do it, we know people who do it, but we need to do a little research into the art of how to get good at it.  Our goal? To not become one with the trees! He he.

I could live in the snow!
Having way too much fun!
We also want to go snow-shoeing.  We have pretty trails and lakes by our house, so we thought it would be kind of fun to get out in the nice white powder and enjoy it.

Trot, trot, trot...
Love me a good stick, no matter what season!
Think a dog could learn to sled? Maybe we'll give it a try! ;-)

What are your favorite things to do in Winter?  Or, do you even get snow in winter?
