Wordless Wednesday: Bittersweet Time
I thought I'd use my last Wordless Wednesday before Kaiser leaves our house to celebrate our time together. He just got neutered today, and so he's relaxing and recovering today- I guess I can give him some space so he can feel better ASAP. I just can't believe he won't be here with us after Friday afternoon- I'm going to be one sad puppy :(

Adventure Dog Tuesday: Jay Cooke State Park
Happy Adventure Dog Tuesday!
We'd like to start our post off today with some GReat news: Our buddy Kaiser, will be adopted on Friday! He will now be known as Geno- named after a famous hockey player. His new family is fantastic, and we know we'll get to see him every once in a while- they only live 15 minutes away! So hooray for Kaiser/Geno! :)
Anywho, back to our Adventure Dog Tuesday.
We LOVE adventures around here, so you'll be hearing about our excursions for a loooong time. :)
Our second camping trip from this past summer was with our friends up to Jay Cooke State Park, up near Duluth, Minnesota. We thought this place was a gem- there was something to do for the entire weekend. It was a little more loud and crowded than other places we go to up on the North Shore, but the campsites were far enough away and separated by trees that it didn't matter much.
This was the one weekend this summer that we didn't get rained out at least one night.
The campsite was enjoyable. Busy, but enjoyable. It was a little more difficult to reserve a campsite here, because so many people like to camp here that you do have to book your weekend at least 6-8 months in advance. We managed to get two campsites that were across the street from each other- pretty snazzy!
There were so many hiking trails to go along. Not only were there hiking trails, there was a really nice biking trail for Bosses, too! We went along the Munger Trail, a rugged hiking trail along the river. We thought it was fun!
Bosses even taught me how to swim in a calm bay off the river. I LOVED it. I am now addicted to swimming. :) See, I told you I was a water dog!
Small Boss had a rather unfortunate "spill" on our afternoon hike on Saturday. I was hiking along with the Big Boss, and Small Boss lost her footing on a rock face and fell down 15 feet with her nice DSLR camera in her hand. She cut up her knee really good, and the camera survived! We were so prepared that we even forgot band-aids....oh wait, yeah, we weren't prepared at all. The Big Boss is an Eagle Scout, he was NOT prepared whatsoever! Oh well, I digress. We got back to camp and cleaned up Small Boss and she was fine.
I got to play all weekend with my little buddy, Jax! He's quite the guy. :) I'm always bummed when we have to go our separate ways, but I know that he'll always be my little buddy! Friendship is the best ship!
Well, I hope you enjoyed my pictures and memories from my lovely July camping trip! Have you been on any fun camping trips? What kind of memories or good advice do you have?
Chow!

Monday Mischief: The Big Reveal
Good Morning, Friends!
Sorry we didn't have a post yesterday- it was a very busy day around here.
Big Boss was on a business trip outside of the country, so we went to pick him up at the airport. I missed him SOOOO much. I was the one who picked him, if you read how I got adopted! So, I am VERY glad his lap and hands are back to give me tons of attention. Yay! Here I am, waiting for him to get out of customs and baggage claim:
After we picked him up, we played a ton, inside and outside. Of course, little Kaiser doesn't have the stamina that I have, so we had to let him take a quick puppy nap. Because....yesterday was his big day. He had a potential family come to our place to meet him! People who have applied and are interested in meeting him come to our house (one family at a time) to see if the dog would be a good fit for their family.
The people who came to meet him were GRRRReat! There were very friendly big humans, and there were two small mailmen that accompanied them! They loved the two of us pups. Of course, they were interested in Kaiser, but I made sure to butt my face into this shindig to get as much attention as I could get. ;-)
They couldn't resist him- they said Kaiser reminded them of their first dog. That's usually a good sign, methinks! They couldn't put him down- they gave him T-R-E-A-T-S, held him, let him run around and play with toys, let him play with me, watched him try to take a nap.....they fell in love with him! We all could tell that it was a successful match.
The adoption policy is that a potential adopter waits a day (or "sleeps on it") concerning whether they would like to adopt the dog or not. We think this is a good idea around here, so that the people don't make an impulse decision, take the dog home, and realize that maybe they made a hasty choice. So.....24 hours will be up at noon today here in the lovely state of Minnesota!
What do you think? Deal, or no deal? Maybe we can make a breaking news insert this afternoon! We're hoping it's a deal, so that we can spread our mischief-makers everywhere! :)

Sepia Saturday: A Suitor!
Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
Look! Off yonder! Driving from the East!
A suitor, to "woo" our tiny little buddy, Kaiser!
We're hoping that this family will be a match for our friend- we love him to pieces, but we know that there are many families excited to bring their own fluffy friend home. Here's to hoping they fall in love!
We love you, tiny little Kaiser! :)

Dog "Furr"st Aid: Be Prepared
Boss was thinking about this the other day, and it got me to thinking: "What would happen if I got hurt while outdoors?"
Fear not, fellow dogs and humans!
Boss got down to the bottom of this.
A dog "furr"st-aid kit is just as important as a human first-aid kit. We all have similar organs, skin, tissues, etc, and we all participate in similar activities. Hiking, climbing, swimming, running, the list could go on. When we all went camping in July, Small Boss took a huge fall down a rock face (and I'm not exaggerating) when we were trying to get to the top of a scenic overlook. She fell/rolled/splattered about 15 feet down, with her really nice camera in hand, so naturally, she tried to save that. Whoops.
She ended up being stopped by a tree trunk, thank goodness. She was pretty cut up, though. She only sustained minor injuries, but after the incident, we all were looking for a few bandages to cover up the wounds. Hmmmm. All the Bosses forgot to bring any first-aid equipment!
Bad idea.
So...Boss ended up hiking another 2-3 miles with open wounds. Had they thought about packing some first-aid supplies, she probably would've been a bit more content walking back. Which gets to my point here:
What if me, as a dog, got hurt? What if I got stung by a bee? Fell down a rock face? Got caught on something? Scratched myself really good?
Enter the thought of packing some doggie "furr"st-aid supplies. Taking care of us fluffies is just as important as the humans. Someone wise once told me "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Can't we prevent worsening symptoms by planning for the worst?
Now, you've got to be wondering: "What do I pack in my "furr"st-aid kit?
Wonder no longer! Here is what we have put together as our little "furr"st-aid kit!
- Benadryl (ask your veterinarian what the appropriate dose would be for your fluffy friend)
- Gauze bandages
- A paper with vet phone numbers and emergency contacts (nearest emergency vet to your location, poison hotline, etc)
- Vet records (we made a copy and put them in a ziploc bag)
- Extra leash- you never know what could happen!
- Coban Wrap- this stuff is nice because it sticks to itself, not to fur.
- Disposable gloves (we used latex ones since we're not allergic to them)
- Hydrogen Peroxide
Things we have on our trips, but are not in the specific dog bag:
- Tweezers
- Antiseptic
- Cotton balls
- Scissors (the kind that don't have pointy ends)
- Antibiotic ointment (the kind you can get from the store)
- Flashlight
- Needle-nose pliers
This is merely a list that I thought would be nice, however, the Humane Society has a great list of some possible things to think about packing, whether it be in your doggie "furr"st aid kit, your human "furr"st-aid kit, or in both. Ours will probably change in materials over time, too, as we learn new information. Long story short, be prepared!

Thoughtless Thursday: DIY Durable (and Cheap) Dog Toy!
Hello, Pals!
We have been burning through dog toys around here, having 3 of us and all! Boss has to get (yet again) crafty to make sure we're not learning how to eat furniture or kitties. So.....with that in mind, she has come up with the solution:
DIY Dog Toys!
This is the first prototype of her "line" of toys for us. This one is made of 4" wide, and long pieces of fleece. Boss picked 1 color this time to make them look cute, but you can use any combination! She also uses 2, 3, and 4 color combinations- it's really up to you. First, I must apologize for my Boss's horrible picture quality- taking pictures in her "craft room" is tough, especially when the sun is coming up!
Once she had the fleece laid out, she cut 4 equal segments of each color.
To start the toy, she tied a knot at the end to keep the work from coming undone.
Then, she started doing the knots. You have to sort of "weave" the 4 strands- it's difficult at first, but once you get going and have less yarn to work with, it gets easier. I always make an upside-down U, and on the other side of the knot, a "U", then think "over, under" to get the correct knot going. It's slow going at first, but after a while, it's just habit.
Keep making knots until you decide that the toy is the right length (there is no "right" length- it's all up to you)! Tie a knot at this end too, to finish the project off. The tighter, the better!
You can also do this project with t-shirt yarn, but you have to use 4 strands to make 1 thicker "strand" to weave, resulting in 16 pieces of t-shirt yarn total. Those tend to be really stretchy, but I still liked to play with them, nonetheless!
Ta-da! A cheap, durable doggie toy that us friends LOVE!
Chow, and Happy Crafting!
